Let's face it, the human race has been getting fatter and lazier over the years. People yo-yo on diets constantly but for what reason? I am a firm believer in the power of habit. Poor habits in our life lead to poor outcomes. This is a no brainer and something that will be discussed more in depth down the road. But lack of education in what we eat causes confusion and allows us to be wishy washy and flip flop from one diet and way of eating to another without ever truly accomplishing what we set out to do.
There's the Mediterranean Diet, Atkins Diet, No Fat Diet, Zero Carb Diet, Bullet Proof Diet, The Fat Diet, and my personal favorite, the "See Food" diet. This is just a small list of the "diets" that are out there. What we see is that the diet works. We do not know why it works but it just does. Then We do it. It works for us. We then go back to eating how we used to and have no idea why we got fat again and feel like garbage.
So what does this have to do with BioHacking you ask? EVERYTHING!!! BioHacking often is thought of as simply some supplement, one single food, a contraption or new invention. The whole concept of BioHacking though is to make the body perform better. It's to not only make our cells work as they are intended but to make them perform even better.
Yes, I just said, "cells". When we look in the mirror, we do not see cells. We see the adonis in front of us. But it comes down to cellular performance. If cells function right, the entire body functions right.
Now let me be a little bit in your face and tell you that if you want your cells to perform well and thus the rest of your body to become optimized as a result, sugar, processed foods, flour (yes bread) are harming you. There's even evidence showing that the human body in no way whatsoever needs carbohydrates to perform.
By now, we all know (and if we all do not- now you do) that the original USDA Food Pyramid we all learned in school with breads on the bottom and fats on the top is skewed. It's just plain wrong. ***Not to worry, as always with BioHackers Inc, all we say is backed up by research we provide. One can argue all day long about macronutrients (carbs, protein and fats) and their use. But when it comes down to it, one can argue all they want on what we should eat. At the end of the day, the human body was designed to perform how it is supposed to perform. We can put oil in our gas tank of our vehicles but our vehicles will break. The same goes for our body. The best thing to do obviously then it to put in only the best of fuels into our car and our body.
The best way for runners to fuel up before a big race is not carbing up the night before. They create such an insulin spike that leads to a hypoglycemic state that the next morning before the run they are dragging ass. I began experimenting on myself by consuming only fat and protein the night before and a Colossal Coffee before my 5 am workouts. I have what seems like unlimited energy. I do not crash and burn. I then began to experiment on my daughter who is a USA gymnast working hard each day to get to that top level. We cut out the carbs her coaches were advising and began with a regimen of higher fat and protein. She has become the Energizer Bunny in that she keeps going and going and going. With all the athletes I work with now, I advise removing the processed foods and carbohydrates and optimize their cells with fat and protein.
People do not realize that a cell is water surrounded by two layers of fat. By removing fat from a diet, we are depleting our cells ability to repair itself with the substance it's made of. By removing fat, our hormones are disrupted, altering most of our bodies natural functions. There's a plethora of negative effects when nutritional fat is removed from the body.
At the end of the day we have a choice to make. We can either choose to perform at the peak of our bodies ability or choose to perform below this peak. The choice ultimately is yours. What will you do with your body? Will you perform at the elite level or will you perform like a beat up jalopy struggling to coast downhill?
