Onnit is a big player in the world of supplements and health, and recently I've been seeing an ad pop up on social media to try a free trial of their one product “New Mood”. With the only cost being a few bucks for shipping, I decided to give it a whirl.
Onnit's website states it's New Mood supplement as one that “can help support your response to daily stress, help you relax, and maintain optimal mood balance” and also describes it as “like a deep breath and a smile in a bottle”. The website and bottle briefly mentions how it can assist with sleep but mainly touts its relaxation and anti-stress actions.
The overall concept of this supplement is to help relax the individual, and it does so through a few specific herbs, which we'll touch on in a moment, but mainly by increasing one of our “happy chemicals”, serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter which is known to help us relax, enjoy, sleep, and boost our memory.
New Mood has Vitamin B3 (Niacin), B6, Magnesium (Mg), Tryptophan, and 5HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan). The concept here is to create serotonin and make us all calm and less stressed. Our body takes tryptophan, an essential amino acid, and converts it into 5HTP so it can cross the blood brain barrier (BBB) and then it'll transform into serotonin.
Why would they have both tryptophan and 5HTP in it then? Good question! The thought here is so that the effects can last longer throughout the day. 5HTP is closer to serotonin than tryptophan, so that should be converted quicker. Tryptphan takes more conversion to turn into serotonin, so the thought is our bodies will create serotonin longer throughout the day through the 2 processes.
B6 and Mg are 2 of the most commonly used substances in the body to help with a multitude of metabolic reactions, including helping to make proteins and neurotransmitters like, you guessed it, serotonin. B3, as well as the Mg, helps increase circulation so all the nutrients can get where they need to be properly used.
Next is their “Tranquility blend” of herbs which consists of the extract of Valerian root, Chamomile flower, Lemon balm, and Jejube Seed. All of these herbs have decent research supporting their use to help relieve mental and emotional stress. Some such as Valerian root has even been suggested to help as a muscle relaxer to continue aiding the “let me just lay down and sleep” feeling of a full body rest.
So they say it works, research supports their ingredients, but that doesn't always translate to it being a good supplement and actually causing the effects that one would expect. However in this case, I believe it does.
Though my 15 day trial, there was 2 things that I really noticed. First was how I was able to stay asleep longer without waking up. I've chronically woken up between 4-10 times within 6 hours, and while taking New Mood, I barely woke during the night. This was huge for me and a very welcomed result.
Coping with stress or increasing mood however, I personally didnt notice much, though others have sworn by this product for stress. I did however notice that I could work on my computer, reading articles, typing, etc for longer periods of time before getting that brain fried, mental overload feeling. So that was a very welcome and unexpected find.
I feel that their product worked for me, it's backed up by science, and I certainly enjoyed sleeping better and being able to do desk work longer. So in short, I give Onnit's New Mood a thumbs up. So if you're interested in feeling and becoming more relaxed and rested, I'd suggest giving this a try and seeing if Onnit can help you discover your own New Mood.

I was at the gym like usual and came across a vendor with a very interesting product. He was selling Theragold, which is "a breakthrough natural pain relief formula, the first of it's kind with Manuka Honey that can quickly and effectively alleviate inflammation, muscle aches and nerve pain- with NO known side effects and without a prescription.
After striking up a conversation with the owner, it was determined he was doing a phenomenal job in getting his product out. It is not only on the web at theragold.com but also on Amazon and getting into retail stores as well. He was extremely friendly and knowledgable about his product.
I have a collection of BioFreeze that will last me to the next ice age. When I have muscle aches (daily) I spray it on and it feels nice. The menthol wears off and I am left in pain.
It's the menthol in most products that gate the pain. In others capsaicin. Pain nerve fibers transmit pain extremely slow to the brain. So if we can stimulate other nerves that fire to the same area of the brain in different ways- the other nerves win the race and the pain is not experienced as drastically.
In Theragold, they use:
Manuka honey in itself has been used for a long time for severe burns due to it's anti- bacterial properties. Arnica has been shown to increase white blood cell activity to a region, causing a healing cascade to occur. Ginger is excellent for digestion but in this case, can be used as an irritant for gating pain. The same can be said of cayenne and peppermint. Rose hip has been found to decrease arthritis pain as does clary sage and lemon balm. Glycerine pulls it all together.
This product seemed interesting and we decided to do a case study on it. As Theragold advertises "Rapid Natural Pain Relief", we accepted this challenge.
We recruited a physically active female, 35 years of age, who does HIIT resistance exercises 5x week. Before the study began, she had no pain in her lower extremity. Her diet remained unchanged and she did not use any other pain relief gels, creams or pills other than Theragold. She did not receive any chiropractic treatments before or during this study.
The subject completed a series of lower extremity exercises, created by a world class professional certified strength and conditioning specialist, with the sole purpose of creating delayed onset muscle soreness in both thighs.
Upon onset of muscle soreness, Theragold was liberally applied to only the right thigh, leaving the left thigh untreated by any intervention whatsoever (the control).
The subject's thighs took approximately 72 hours to completely heal from the resistance exercises given. At that time, no pain was present. The subject reported, "the Theragold was pleasant in smell and felt nice when applied". However, there was no difference whatsoever in either increase or decrease of pain on the thigh the Theragold was applied to.
Pain creams use an irritant to gate pain (as previously discussed). Unfortunately the absorption into the blood stream and directly into the muscle is suspect at best. Manuka honey may have anti-inflammatory properties in it but if it cannot penetrate into the affected area, those properties mean nothing. Therapies are able to use electric stimulation to "push" ingredients transcutaneously but without a sure fire delivery system, pain creams will continue to "feel nice" but have little if any effect on true "Rapid Natural Pain Relief".

I sit down the other day and my wife tells me Collin Kaeperenick, the former NFL quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers was suspended for 8 games. Go figure. Considering she is a Cowboys fan and I am a Giants fan, there had to be more to this story than yet another NFL player being suspended for some less than professional action. There was.
My wife told me that part of why Kaeperenick was suspended was due to a supplement being touted as "cheating" as the user "hardly has to do anything at all" in order to achieve desired results. The NFL was considering banning it but as of the date of this publication, has not.
I read the ESPN article and thought it read more as an advertisement of a supplement called, Ultimate Testo Explosion. I went to the website of Ultimate Testo Explosion and it was a very convincing sales pitch, pushing the reader to act fast or it will be all gone. They company behind Ultimate Testo Explosion is difficult to find but their marketing is all over the internet. On the ESPN website, they do claim Ultimate Testo Explosion gave them samples to test.
The company claims of their product- Ultimate Testo Explosion has been clinically proven to:
The Ultimate Testo Explosion website also claims:
They also claim this is clinically proven yet fail to provide any of the results or actual references to the research studies to clinically prove this.
On a Friday night, the idea to accept this challenge became overwhelming. @BioHackers will purchase this product and test it out for 30 days to see if there are any changes in lean muscle, mental focus, sex drive, stamina and fat loss. Therefore, in the words of the great Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother), "Challenge Accepted"!!!
Saturday morning happened and I whipped out my debit card, ordering Ultimate Testo Explosion from the link found on the ESPN website. I thought the offer was risk free and I pay only for shipping. What I failed to read is the fine print. "While we are confident that Ultimate Testo Explosion is the most effective and powerful testosterone- boosting supplement on the market today, this is NOT a risk-free trial offer. By placing an order you will pay $4.96 for shipping and will be shipped a 30 day supply of Ultimate Testo Explosion. You will have 14 days to try the product. 14 days from the date of purchase, you will be charged $98.49 and enrolled in our autoshipment program. If you cancel before the 14 day trial ends, you may be charged a $9.95 retention fee for keeping the product. After 14 days from the date of purchase, opened packages are not eligible for refunds, even if they are returned. After 30 days, all shipments are ineligible for refunds even if they are unopened. Every thirty days thereafter until you cancel, you will be billed a new 30 day supply at $98.49. Thus, until you cancel your subscription you will be billed $98.49 every 30 days starting 14 days after the initial purchase date. You can cancel your membership anytime by calling (866) 832- 9921 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org."
After placing my order, it stated that my order was not complete and offered me their bonus Extreme MXL. Cute name. I did not click on anything other than to finish my order and low and behold, Extreme MXL was included. While ticked off a bit, it was Saturday, no one else was up and it was peaceful so I made the decision to hold onto that.
Typically with product reviews, we do not do full case studies. In this case, the gauntlet was laid down with the challenge being accepted. Before and after photos would be completed as well as proper body fat testing with a skin fold caliper (while the gold standard is obviously hydrostatic testing, we have not yet begun to accept donations to fund our research, but please do feel free at any time), along with some evaluations on the other criteria to report after the study was completed.
The participants will be myself (Jim), who works out 5-6 days per week and eats primarily a "Paleo Diet" and has for a couple years now. Mike was going to participate and actually obtained a bottle of Ultimate Testo Explode but, "his dog ate it". No joke! His dog actually got the bottle and chewed it and the caps. Fortunately his dog was okay as it self induced vomiting and after his stint of acting like Cujo, all was well once again.

The Tribulus Factor
The most notable ingredient in this formula is tribulus terrestris. A very good tribulus is believed to increase free testosterone in humans. More studies than not however disprove this fact. Not all supplements in an unregulated industry are created the same. Tribulus is one of these supplements. The type of tribulus utilized in the research may also be inferior, thus giving inferior results.
However, regardless of this being said, on the whole tribulus appears to be a disappointing supplement for boost in testosterone. In otherwise healthy males, testosterone is not typically influenced with supplementation of tribulus terrestris. There may be an increase in infertile men, but this is weak at best.
What tribulus has been shown to improve is libido, which for the purpose of an advertised testosterone booster that does not boost testosterone as per research, does not make much sense. However, on the bottom of the bottle it does state it is a libido booster.
"6g of tribulus root daily for 60 days in persons with low sperm count appeared to improve erectile properties and frequency of coitis as well as reducing weakness (improving fatigue). In these men, an increase in testosterone was noted (16.3%) but failed to reach statistical significance."
The cause of the disappointment is that all positive results in an increase in testosterone by using tribulus is due to the fact that the studies were conducted on rat testicles, not humans.
As a main ingredient in a supplement that is supposed to get you "shredded", tribulus appears to fall short of the mark.
I realize the makers of Ultimate Test Explosion urge you to try it for 90 days. After the initial 30 though, based on both objective measurements and a total lack of research on the ingredients listed, I do not feel that any benefit can be had from this. If the NFL wants to ban it, then it is doing so based purely on marketing and subjectivity. If Collin Kaeperenick is giving the kudos of success to Ultimate Test explosion, then they must be paying him to say that. Otherwise I would like to see what other herbs and pharmaceuticals he is taking.

We know our vegetables are good for us. But with a nickname such as "roughage", who in the world wants to eat all of that each and every day? But we know vegetables are good for us. Not only are they good for us but some vegetables are known as super foods!!! Why not find a way to live longer and healthier?
I began my pursuit years ago on this topic and came across many different green drink products. None were as encompassing as Green Vibrance. Yes, I will admit that for the first two weeks (or is that months) I had nicknamed it "Pond Sludge". It was the consistency of what you see in a pond on a late hot summer day. While I have not ever drank pond sludge, I can only imagine it tastes quite the same. But the taste grew on me and based on the ingredients and potency of said ingredients, I kept drinking it.
Greens (vegetables) supply micro nutrients in the form of vitamins and minerals that are essential for our daily function. These foods in the drink help us absorb other nutrients in our diet and enhance circulation, which is essential for proper delivery of nutrients to our system as well as the transport of oxygen and other chemical mediators that help our body heal from illness or a hard workout.
The Green Vibrance website states:
The Green Vibrance formula grows from the concepts that:
1.The modern diet fails to supply enough micronutrients to support optimal health
2.Paleolithic biochemistry runs us, hasn’’t changed in 40,000 years and expects to be fed high nutrient density from each calorie of food ingested
3.The body can heal itself if given proper nutritional support
Green Vibrance is designed as a concentrated, nutrient-dense food from vegetable sources that is meant to:
Support a healthy digestive tract, thereby improving nutrient absorption;
Deliver trace nutrients at Paleolithic concentrations (far higher than found in modern diets);
Improve circulation and cardiovascular health in order to deliver those nutrients to every cell of the body;*
Support a vigorous and efficient immune system;
Directly or indirectly support the other body systems (i.e. musculoskeletal, neurological, integumentary (skin), respiratory, urinary, endocrine, cardiovascular/circulatory, digestive, reproductive and immune)
The BenefitsThe many ingredients in Green Vibrance. Were put together with care, in order to maximize the amount of and synergism among nutrients. The result delivers healthful nutritional support to the 11 body systems. Enjoy:
Here's a list of the ten thousand ingredients in each container (okay, ten thousand is an exaggeration. It's really only 74 ingredients and super foods, adaptogens, enzymes and probiotics).
1. Helps improve a sub-par digestive tract or strengthen and maintain one that is already operating efficiently. Ingredients that deliver this benefit are:25 billion probiotic bacteria (inhibit “bad” bacteria and yeast; aids digestion and nutrient absorption)*
Plus uncounted milligrams of polyphenols from green food.
6. Help assure skeletal health. * They are:
Literally each and every single ingredient could have a full article on it on how it optimizes human function. This is not the case of "take this and it will do X for you". This is the case of, "drink this and it will do A-Z for you".
Perhaps one day if the kids are at Grammie and Grandpas for a weekend and the wife somehow does not want any attention whatsoever because she has decided to forego a tropical beach vacation and instead opt for a weekend of binge watching Greys Anatomy on Netflix, I can take the time and write a full article on each of these very ingredients. But for now, just know this product ROCKS and if you want to optimize the human body of which is yours- drink it...every day...pond sludge or not.

We all know we need sleep. While unknown the exact reason we sleep, it is vital for human function. With sleep we improve neural, muscular and skeletal function as well as the function of pretty much every "thing" within our body. In a sense, sleep is at the core of biohacking because without proper rest and recovery, our bodies cannot survive.
I was browsing Facebook the other week (an extreme rarity) and came across a post asking anyone if they were interested in free samples of a sleep supplement. I did not get past the free part before I was sending away for it.
The sample was totally free. There were no strings attacked. I totally forgot about it and then on a Saturday, the mail man came with a package containing a new supplement I had never seen before.
I have tried many sleep supplements before so I was a bit skeptical. The bottle was a glossy silver, which is quite unique. I perused the ingredients before ingestion. The ingredients listed are:
(taken with photos from the Vasayo website for ease of this review)
What stands out to me though is their liposome ingredients to allow for better absorption. These ingredients are listed on the bottle as:
oleic acid complex (from non-GMO sunflower oil)
It's all well and good to ingest something for a benefit but if it is not bioavailable then what's the purpose? In the past, as stated previous, I have taken some phenomenal sleep supplements. The ingredients ranged from melatonin to GABA, hops, passionflower, B vitamins and more yet I was still up all night, tossing and turning.
So far, based on their ingredients and shiny bottle, I was impressed. Next step was testing it on myself and a few willing volunteers. As per instruction, four sprays of the Micro Life Sleep Spray were sprayed into the mouth. A very orangey taste was experienced and ten minutes later, we were all out cold in a restful sleep for the night. It was perhaps one of the best sleeps I have had in a very long time.
Subsequent uses of this have proven the same exact results.
If this product was awful, I would have stated it was awful. This product is phenomenal and Dr. Daddy approved. The individual, Dr. Eric Thompson, who sent me this product was not aware of this review but this review had to be written as the product is a great benefit. BioHackers Inc makes no money whatsoever on this but would like to give the website on how to obtain this product. You can obtain it at: http://drericthompson.vasayo.com
