I sit down the other day and my wife tells me Collin Kaeperenick, the former NFL quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers was suspended for 8 games. Go figure. Considering she is a Cowboys fan and I am a Giants fan, there had to be more to this story than yet another NFL player being suspended for some less than professional action. There was.
My wife told me that part of why Kaeperenick was suspended was due to a supplement being touted as "cheating" as the user "hardly has to do anything at all" in order to achieve desired results. The NFL was considering banning it but as of the date of this publication, has not.
I read the ESPN article and thought it read more as an advertisement of a supplement called, Ultimate Testo Explosion. I went to the website of Ultimate Testo Explosion and it was a very convincing sales pitch, pushing the reader to act fast or it will be all gone. They company behind Ultimate Testo Explosion is difficult to find but their marketing is all over the internet. On the ESPN website, they do claim Ultimate Testo Explosion gave them samples to test.
The company claims of their product- Ultimate Testo Explosion has been clinically proven to:
The Ultimate Testo Explosion website also claims:
They also claim this is clinically proven yet fail to provide any of the results or actual references to the research studies to clinically prove this.
On a Friday night, the idea to accept this challenge became overwhelming. @BioHackers will purchase this product and test it out for 30 days to see if there are any changes in lean muscle, mental focus, sex drive, stamina and fat loss. Therefore, in the words of the great Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother), "Challenge Accepted"!!!
Saturday morning happened and I whipped out my debit card, ordering Ultimate Testo Explosion from the link found on the ESPN website. I thought the offer was risk free and I pay only for shipping. What I failed to read is the fine print. "While we are confident that Ultimate Testo Explosion is the most effective and powerful testosterone- boosting supplement on the market today, this is NOT a risk-free trial offer. By placing an order you will pay $4.96 for shipping and will be shipped a 30 day supply of Ultimate Testo Explosion. You will have 14 days to try the product. 14 days from the date of purchase, you will be charged $98.49 and enrolled in our autoshipment program. If you cancel before the 14 day trial ends, you may be charged a $9.95 retention fee for keeping the product. After 14 days from the date of purchase, opened packages are not eligible for refunds, even if they are returned. After 30 days, all shipments are ineligible for refunds even if they are unopened. Every thirty days thereafter until you cancel, you will be billed a new 30 day supply at $98.49. Thus, until you cancel your subscription you will be billed $98.49 every 30 days starting 14 days after the initial purchase date. You can cancel your membership anytime by calling (866) 832- 9921 or emailing email@example.com."
After placing my order, it stated that my order was not complete and offered me their bonus Extreme MXL. Cute name. I did not click on anything other than to finish my order and low and behold, Extreme MXL was included. While ticked off a bit, it was Saturday, no one else was up and it was peaceful so I made the decision to hold onto that.
Typically with product reviews, we do not do full case studies. In this case, the gauntlet was laid down with the challenge being accepted. Before and after photos would be completed as well as proper body fat testing with a skin fold caliper (while the gold standard is obviously hydrostatic testing, we have not yet begun to accept donations to fund our research, but please do feel free at any time), along with some evaluations on the other criteria to report after the study was completed.
The participants will be myself (Jim), who works out 5-6 days per week and eats primarily a "Paleo Diet" and has for a couple years now. Mike was going to participate and actually obtained a bottle of Ultimate Testo Explode but, "his dog ate it". No joke! His dog actually got the bottle and chewed it and the caps. Fortunately his dog was okay as it self induced vomiting and after his stint of acting like Cujo, all was well once again.

The Tribulus Factor
The most notable ingredient in this formula is tribulus terrestris. A very good tribulus is believed to increase free testosterone in humans. More studies than not however disprove this fact. Not all supplements in an unregulated industry are created the same. Tribulus is one of these supplements. The type of tribulus utilized in the research may also be inferior, thus giving inferior results.
However, regardless of this being said, on the whole tribulus appears to be a disappointing supplement for boost in testosterone. In otherwise healthy males, testosterone is not typically influenced with supplementation of tribulus terrestris. There may be an increase in infertile men, but this is weak at best.
What tribulus has been shown to improve is libido, which for the purpose of an advertised testosterone booster that does not boost testosterone as per research, does not make much sense. However, on the bottom of the bottle it does state it is a libido booster.
"6g of tribulus root daily for 60 days in persons with low sperm count appeared to improve erectile properties and frequency of coitis as well as reducing weakness (improving fatigue). In these men, an increase in testosterone was noted (16.3%) but failed to reach statistical significance."
The cause of the disappointment is that all positive results in an increase in testosterone by using tribulus is due to the fact that the studies were conducted on rat testicles, not humans.
As a main ingredient in a supplement that is supposed to get you "shredded", tribulus appears to fall short of the mark.
I realize the makers of Ultimate Test Explosion urge you to try it for 90 days. After the initial 30 though, based on both objective measurements and a total lack of research on the ingredients listed, I do not feel that any benefit can be had from this. If the NFL wants to ban it, then it is doing so based purely on marketing and subjectivity. If Collin Kaeperenick is giving the kudos of success to Ultimate Test explosion, then they must be paying him to say that. Otherwise I would like to see what other herbs and pharmaceuticals he is taking.
